Desires and Demands

March 31, 2014

By Adele Finney

A couple weeks ago I heard Peter Mansbridge interviewing Joseph Boyden about his novel The Orenda. Apparently the first 20 pages were written on a long flight when he discovered he had the middle seat of three. He knew he could either put in his earphones and watch movies throughout the flight or begin writing something that was waiting to be written. He chose writing, and his seatmates left him in enough peace to give birth to 20 pages that changed very little from how they first emerged on that flight.

Desires and demands–I think that is what is waiting at my shoulder to write about as I travel to Hong Kong for a meeting of the Anglican Alliance Board of Trustees and then on to the Philippines to visit PWRDF partners as we discern our future. I am going to risk sharing in this blog what I write, not knowing where I’ll begin or end up.
