PWRDF responds to floods in Peru

PWRDF has announced a $20,000 emergency grant in support of the rapid response work of ACT Alliance forum members in the face of devastating floods, landslides and mudslides in Peru.

The worst flooding since 1998 is scouring the arid landscape of coastal Peru. This phenomenon has been affecting the country since January 2017. In February, the ACT Secretariat sent a relief grant of $59,072 US to respond to the emergency.

But the situation has continued to worsen, leading the ACT Secretariat to yesterday approve an additional grant of $90,880 US, bringing the total contribution to $149,952 US.

ACT members and local partners are providing humanitarian assistance in the regions of Ica and La Libertad, in the villages of Salitral, Morropon, Huancabamba and Huarmaca. This four-month intervention is targeting 680 affected households with food, temporary shelter and hygiene kits. The project will also focus on community mobilizing and community-based psycho-social care.
