El Salvador: Pew Bulletin Story 2001
Schooling is a child’s basic human right.
PWRDF El Salvadoran partner, ADES (Social-Economic Development Association) operates a school in Santa Marta for 1,200 poor children, from kindergarten to Grade 10. Lydia and Hilda, two of the student teachers, tell us of the hopefulness born when the light comes on and a child suddenly comprehends the meaning of the written word. The school’s young teachers attend university to become government-certified, but funding for their studies is waning and every year it becomes more difficult to obtain support.
