Part of Anglican Alliance meetings is a visit to local ministry among vulnerable people. At this combined Board of Trustees meeting we toured a Hong Kong diocesan ministry housed at St. James’ Settlement’s newly-opened nine-story building. Along with services to children, youth and people with disabilities, we checked out the space for the HUBBA Lab where retirees participate in innovative activities to widen their horizons and possibilities.
As someone nearing retirement age, I am aware of new opportunities to fulfill desires for writing, reflection, relationships that don’t have enough time in a working life. I am increasingly aware of the demands of an aging body and sometimes weary spirit.
In a 3D room that gave me an initial slight spasm of vertigo, a completely flat floor-of-many-colours transformed through a camera lens into a cliff and waterfall. Anglican Alliance Board members hopped on. I’m not sure how they use the room–perhaps the lesson is you only find out where you are when you step into the picture and see yourself through another lens.
